It’s cozy season! As we add more layer to our clothes in preparation for the colder weather, we start to think of ways to brighten up our homes and warm up our interiors. We love planning ahead and making sure we have everything we need for a wonderful time indoors. Here, we’ll share our tips and tricks to help you enjoy the cooler seasons in the comfort of your own home.

Amping Up the Cozy Vibe With Lighting… and Scents!

There are two other ways we love cozying up and setting the mood with lighting. Both of which are done with… you guessed it—fire! The simpler way is to get your favorite scented candle (or three!), set them on strategic locations inside the house, light them up, and let them fill your space with soft dancing flames and your preferred scents. If you don’t like having too many candles lit at the same time, consider getting candle warmers which can help you achieve both mood lighting and scent diffusion simultaneously.

Another way is to add a fireplace in your home.  Whether it’s in your living room where you can cozy up with the fam or in the master’s bedroom for more of that romantic feel, sitting near the fireplace with a book or your favorite hot drink definitely achieves those cozy fall−winter vibes.

If you want to elevate your fireplace experience, you can use it as the best scent diffuser to warm up your interiors. You can go about this a couple of ways:

• Essential oils – Adding a few drops of essential oils to a neutral-scented piece of wood resting close to but not directly on the flames will help disperse the scent. Experiment with how much oil you need to fill the room with the scent, but we suggest starting at around 5 drops!
• Herbs – Similar to essential oils, you can also use herbs as natural scents to make your interiors feel homier. Herbs that smell great when heated up include: sage, lavender, rosemary, juniper, and myrrh. Set it near the base of your wood pile, or if you have one you can use, a heat-proof ceramic bowl or steel cauldron for a nice roasty scent.
• Scented wood – Our favourite, picking which wood to burn elevates the aromas that permeate throughout your rooms. Although it would depend on your preference, some of the most commonly acknowledged best-smelling wood include: cedar, pine, apple, walnut, and hickory. Something else you may need to source at specialty shops is palo santo—a type of wood that releases a mint-like scent when burned.
